Greek tragedy has been part of the National Theatre's repertoire since the company formed. Its first performance of a Greek tragedy, Sophocles' Philoctetes, was in 1964. This exhibit explores how the challenges of staging Greek tragedy have been met on the National Theatre's stages through four themes; performance space, setting (the world of the play), chorus, and masks.
